Nursery Web Spider Silk Hand Embroidered Art

£350.00

Hand stitched on tea stained silk/cotton blend fabric using fine silk floss thread this nursery web spider has been embroidered using a needlepainting technique with clusters of French knots to create the egg sac. The image measures 3.5" x 3" and it is framed in a 5.11” Nurge wooden embroidery hoop.
Mother:
I fell in love with this nursery web spider when I saw her last summer cradling her eggs and warming them in the sun. They are fantastic mothers, not only do they carefully carry their eggsac in their mouthparts to keep them safe, but just before they hatch she will spin a silk tent in long grass to protect them and stand guard of the young spiderlings. She is an invertebrate supermum.
