Keeping you up to date with my embroidery world
Exciting new workshop opportunity in collaboration with Hand & Lock
I am so excited to announce that next May I will be holding a two day workshop at the amazing Hand & Lock in London. This course will explore the process of creating and designing a project, from picking the subject matter to planning your stitch direction and shading guidelines.
After exploring the process of creating a project, we will start stitching an exclusive design, created especially for Hand and Lock, depicting a small magpie moth in fine silk floss thread. Putting into to practice the principles that can help to create the flow, movement and depth of silk shading embroidery.
Needlepainting is a slow and mindful process and this course aims to get you started on your journey. You will not complete the embroidery during the course but will be given the materials and knowledge to go away and experience silk shading in your own time and at your own pace.
The course will take place on 31st May - 1st June 2025 and is priced at £250. If you would like to join me for this exciting opportunity you can book via Hand & Lock’s website here
I look forward to seeing you there!
Crickhowell Open Art Competition 2024 - Winner of the Visitors Choice Award
Since the bank holiday weekend, 25-27 May 2024, the Oriel gallery in Crickhowell has been hosting ‘Crickhowell Open Art 2024’. A competition showcasing a wide selection of work from a variety of artists ranging from oil paintings to digital art, textiles, pastels and much more.
During the opening weekend people were asked to vote for their favourite piece in the gallery and, after all the votes were checked, I was overwhelmed to find out that my embroidery ‘How dare the robins sing’ had won the visitors choice award.
This was huge news, not only for me but for embroidery as an artform. Embroidered art has often struggled to be taken seriously alongside more traditional forms. It often evokes images of well-to-do ladies whiling away the hours in an Austen novel (the latest series of Bridgerton hasn’t really helped to dispel this image). But winning this awards shows that not only can embroidery sit comfortably alongside other forms of art in a respected gallery, but that people will accept it and single it out as their favourite work. Thank you Oriel Gallery and thank you to everyone that voted for my little robin.
All winners can be viewed on the gallery’s website here
